Importance of Vitamin K

Vitamin K is an important ingredient for the human body.  It plays an important role in bone and heart disease, ranging from blood clots.  Vitamin K is one of the fat-soluble vitamins. This Vitamin is needed by the body to make protein and blood clotting prothrombin for bone metabolism.

How many types of vitamin K are there?

 There are basically two types of vitamin K.  Two types of this vitamin have a significant role in the body.

  •  Vitamin K1
  •  Vitamin K2

 Vitamin K1 is usually supplied to the body from plant foods.  Vitamin K2 is supplied from animal feed.

Broccoli: Half a cup of broccoli contains 75 micrograms of this vitamin.  There are many ways to cook it.  However, it is better to cook with canola or olive oil.  In addition to adding ‘Vitamin K’ to the food, it also adds extra flavor.

Cauliflower: Cauliflower is said to be the king of this vitamin.  It can be called a ‘superfood’ because it is rich in calcium, potassium and folate.  It also contains vitamins and minerals.  Beneficial for patients with diabetes and obesity.

Turnip: Turnips are known as winter vegetables.  It is a kind of converted root and the lower part of the soil is used as food.  Half a cup of boiled turnip contains 426 micrograms of this vitamin.  It has many disease-resistant properties.  It relieves inflammation.  Even helps fight cancer.  It keeps hair and skin well.  Eliminates anaemia. 

It can eliminate bad cholesterol.  Turnips help increase the body’s resistance to disease.  Its lutein is beneficial for the heart.  As turnip has a lot of fibre, it cures constipation.  Turnips purify the blood and help in the growth of blood cells.  Turnips are also very useful to eliminate anorexia.

Spinach: Half a cup of cooked spinach contains three times more vitamin K than raw spinach.  Spinach is also rich in various nutrients such as Vitamin-A, B, E, Magnesium, Folate and Iron.

Lettuce: One leaf of lettuce contains 3.62 mcg of this Vitamin.  Also, it contains phytonutrients which are essentially antioxidants.  All these ingredients help to keep the body disease-free and healthy.

Soybeans: There are two types of vitamin K, namely, vitamin K-1 and K-2.  Vitamin K-1 comes from plants and Vitamin K-2 comes in small amounts from animal sources and fermented foods such as cheese.

 However, vitamin K-2 is found in soybean and soybean oil.

Benefits of Vitamin K in the human body

The human body needs this vitamin in many ways.  It helps in many ways.
